Apple ID Password Recovery Procedure

If you are having trouble signing in with your current Apple ID password or if you are unable to recall it, follow the steps listed below to regain access to your account:

  1. Go to the Apple ID Account page at
  2. Click the “Forgot Apple ID or password?” link
  3. Enter your Apple ID and click “Continue” to proceed
  4. In the next step, you will be able to see how you can reset your Apple password depending upon which security feature you have chosen for your account. For e.g. someone using two-factor authentication will go through a different password recovery procedure than someone who uses security questions

Security Questions:

If you know the answers to your security questions, select “Answer security questions” and follow the steps to reset your password.

Get an Email:

If you choose the “Get an email” option, you will receive an email to your primary or rescue email address through which you can reset your password.

The Two-Factor Authentication Method:

If you are using the two-factor authentication feature for your account, you can reset or change your Apple password directly from your trusted Apple device such as your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch or on . The following procedure will only work from a trusted device with a device passcode enabled:

  1. Go to and enter your Apple ID
  2. Enter your trusted phone number and click “Continue”. You will receive a notification on your trusted device
  3. Wait for the notification to pop up on your trusted device and click “Allow”
  4. Follow the steps to enter your device passcode and reset your Apple password

To reset your password from your trusted iOS device, follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Settings” and then go to iCloud
  2. Tap your name
  3. Tap “Password & Security”
  4. Tap “Change Password”
  5. Enter a new password

In case you don’t have access to a trusted device, you can recover your password with account recovery, which is designed to make you regain access to your account while denying access to anyone who might be trying to get into your account. The process may take some time, depending on the account information you give for the verification of your identity.

The Two-Step Verification Method:

If you have enabled the two-step verification feature, make sure you have your recovery key and a trusted device for resetting your password:

  1. Go to and enter your Apple ID
  2. Enter your Recovery Key
  3. Choose a trusted device on which you will receive a verification code
  4. Enter the verification code
  5. Create a new password and click “Reset Password”

If you have lost your recovery key or access to your trusted device and are unable to recover, then you can’t change your password.

After you are done with resetting your Apple password, you will be asked to sign in again with your new password. Also update your password in Apple services and on your devices.
